New - Wrought Iron Accents
This is our New Wrought Iron Accents that we now offer with our furniture. The Iron work is all Hand Forged in our Blacksmith Shop just as they did 100 years ago. Heated in a coal forge and hammered to shape on an antique anvil. Even our nails are forged by hand. The wrought iron corner brackets can be used on the new style flush apron that is shown here on the coffee table above. As you can see, the bead detail is also different, and wraps around the leg. A very distinctive difference than our other apron style. The wrought iron leg supports that have a small twist in the middle, add detail which can be included on any of our tables and apron styles.

Distressed "Pine Farmhouse Table"
|
This is
our famous Vermont farmhouse table. Made from native eastern pine from
here in Vermont. The legs are carefully turned on our lathe one at a time
by hand, using 41/2" thick stock, then are joined to the table aprons
using mortise and tenon jointery, glued and pegged through the joint with
white oak pins. This method is the strongest and most time tested way of
joining table legs. You will never find our tables with a bolt or cheap
metal bracket attaching our legs.
The tops of our pine farmhouse tables are carefully selected for grain pattern, width and as many knots as possible. After being glued, they are joined together at the ends using "bread board" or batten" ends. This method, while time consuming, controls the natural expansion and contraction over the seasons that wood endures, more so with wide boards. It is a form of mortise and tenon jointery using primarily hand tools to shape and fit so that the wood can move inside the mortises, pinned as always through the top with white oak pins. All of the surfaces are then hand planed, using antique tools just like they would have a century ago. Once the table construction is completed it is brought through a series of steps to distress and age the appearance. This process takes several days painstakingly done one step at a time to bring years of wear to your farmhouse table. Our aging process has taken years to perfect. You will not find a more authentic looking Vermont farmhouse table without buying an antique. |
